WELCOME TO SWIM BUZZ
This blog will soon be filled with interesting and useful swimming related articles and news from South Africa and abroad, exceptional achievements and breaking records, swimming events calendar, inspiration, advice, motivation, physical/mental training tips, (suggest any event, whether formal or informal). This is a basic draft so far...
We are the event organisers and central communications hub for the annual Cadiz Freedom Swim (www.freedomswim.co.za) - an extreme, 7.5km Open Water/Ocean Swim Race from Robben Island to the South African mainland (Big Bay) Bloubergstrand which raises funds for Vista Nova School for children with cerebral palsy, learning disorders and special needs.
The race takes place as close to National Freedom Day (27 April) as possible.
This marks the end of the oppressive Apartheid era in 1994, when Nelson Mandela was elected as President, bringing Democracy and freedom of it's people.
Significantly, former President Mandela spent a number of years in prison on Robben Island. The prison now known as the Robben Island Museum (http://www.robben-island.org.za)and is now a respected South African Heritage site. The authories have our humble thanks and appreciation for allowing us there for the start of the race.
We also manage/organise a host of smaller open water swimming events, including the Cadiz Swim Series. Each swim takes place on a National Holiday and raise funds for good causes that relate to each. These include:
Cadiz Youth Day Swim (16 June annually)
- Raises funds for The Homestead , - A shelter that educates street kids givingthem a chance for a better future integration with society.
